Technical controls P3 (b)

The Exposure Triangle

Aperture Settings

Shutter Speed Settings

Camera Controls - Still life images

Here is a short list of all my successful photos taken:

1)

This Image was successful because everything was in focus.
The shutter speed was 12.3 seconds, and as this is a still image photo, this allowed longer exposure so more light was aloud in.
The Aperture was set at f/22 which gave the image a deeper depth of field, so that everything was in focus.
The ISO speed ratings were 2000, which helped the lighting of the image, because it was taken in a dark environment it was a higher sensitivity to the light.

2)

This image is lightly over exposed, but helped the image to become more exciting, because the lighting is focused on the Jewellery box helping the viewer to focus more on that, which is one of the main subjects in the photo.
The shutter speed was 12.3 seconds and as this is a still image photo, this allowed longer exposure so more light was aloud in.
The Aperture was set at f/22 which gave the image a deeper depth of field, so that everything was in focus.
The ISO speed ratings were 100 which made it less sensitive to the light, giving it a higher quality and a harsher light. This made it more over exposed because we were using a bright light in this image, so both the light and ISO speed rating gave it a higher exposed result.

3)

This image is also slightly over exposed which gave it a brighter light focusing on the Jewellery box, to help the viewer focus on one of the main subjects of the image.
The shutter speed was 12.3 seconds and as this is a still image photo, this allowed longer exposure so more light was aloud in.
The Aperture was set at f/22 which gave the image a deeper depth of field, so that everything was in focus, especially the sunglasses.
The ISO speed ratings were 100, which made it a low sensitivity to the light, and a higher quality. Because this was taken in a darker environment, a higher ISO number should have been used because it made the image slightly over exposed.

Here is a short list of all my unsuccessful photos taken:
1)

The shutter speed of this photo is 12.3 so it had a longer exposure and let more light in, explaining why the photo is more exposed and bright.
The aperture was set at f/20 which was a shallower depth of field compared to the good photos I took, but still has a slightly deep depth of field.
The ISO speed ratings were set at 100 which, gave it a higher quality exposing the photo more than it should have.

2)

This photo had the potential to be a good photo, because the shutter speed, aperture and ISO speed ratings were all similar to the settings in my successful photos. The problem with this photo is that when it was taken, I was jogged when taking the photo which explains why it is blurred and out of focus.

3)

This photo also had the potential to be an average photo, because the settings were similar to the settings in my successful photos. I do not think this would have been a great photo though because the angle it was taken at did not show a few of the key features such as the flowers.

Here are photos of us working on our Still Images photography:

White Balance

To set up the custom white balance settings on the camera, I had to take a picture of a blank, white piece of paper and set that picture as the white balance. After this, we had to take various pictures of an object, in which I chose a pumpkin. Now that the settings on the camera was set to white balance, after every picture I took I would change the modes including:
- Auto
- Daylight
- Shade
- Cloudy, twilight, sunset
- Tungsten light
- white fluorescent light
- flash use
- custom
- colour temperature

This is the blank, white piece of paper I took first of all, to set as the white balance.

Custom
Shutter Speed: 1/125 Secs - Shorter exposure, allows less light in so that photo is in focus.
Aperture: f/1.8 - Shallower depth of field, main subject in focus, background blurred
ISO: 100 - Higher quality, smoother photo

Daylight
Shutter Speed: 1/125 Secs - Shorter exposure, allows less light in so that photo is in focus.
Aperture: f/1.8 - Shallower depth of field, main subject in focus, background blurred
ISO: 100 - Higher quality, smoother photo

Auto
Shutter Speed: 1/125 Secs - Shorter exposure, allows less light in so that photo is in focus.
Aperture: f/1.8 - Shallower depth of field, main subject in focus, background blurred
ISO: 100 - Higher quality, smoother photo

 Shade
Shutter Speed: 1/125 Secs - Shorter exposure, allows less light in so that photo is in focus.
Aperture: f/1.8 - Shallower depth of field, main subject in focus, background blurred
ISO: 100 - Higher quality, smoother photo
 Cloudy, twilight, sunset
Shutter Speed: 1/125 Secs - Shorter exposure, allows less light in so that photo is in focus.
Aperture: f/1.8 - Shallower depth of field, main subject in focus, background blurred
ISO: 100 - Higher quality, smoother photo
 Tungsten light
Shutter Speed: 1/125 Secs - Shorter exposure, allows less light in so that photo is in focus.
Aperture: f/1.8 - Shallower depth of field, main subject in focus, background blurred
ISO: 100 - Higher quality, smoother photo
 White fluorescent light
Shutter Speed: 1/125 Secs - Shorter exposure, allows less light in so that photo is in focus.
Aperture: f/1.8 - Shallower depth of field, main subject in focus, background blurred
ISO: 100 - Higher quality, smoother photo
 flash use
Shutter Speed: 1/125 Secs - Shorter exposure, allows less light in so that photo is in focus.
Aperture: f/1.8 - Shallower depth of field, main subject in focus, background blurred
ISO: 100 - Higher quality, smoother photo
Color Temperature
Shutter Speed: 1/125 Secs - Shorter exposure, allows less light in so that photo is in focus.
Aperture: f/1.8 - Shallower depth of field, main subject in focus, background blurred
ISO: 100 - Higher quality, smoother photo

We then went outside and took a various amount of photos, with the camera settings on White balance, changing the modes as we took each picture.

This is the blank, white piece of paper I took first of all, when going outside to set as the white balance.
